King of the Cardboard City

When you look at me, what is it you see?
Do you see king of the cardboard city,
Saving the forgotten and abandoned,
Offering escape from reality?

In my world, the land of the impoverished,
It's the little things that must be cherished,
A trusted friend, or a warm place to sleep,
Finding treasure a stranger has banished.

I have no need to live among the sheep,
All the masks they hide behind, they can keep,
Not realizing they're all clones, invisible,
All that perfection is only skin deep.

I know my life is far from typical,
Carving a life out of the minimal,
My heart and spirit are unsinkable,
Everyday my life is a miracle.
